Current Projects Achievements
Queensland Education IT Support is continuing to present challenges as the need for more advanced technologies to support our children’s learning is being stifled by a large cut in funding for schools across Queensland. The QSITE conference being held in September this year (ITM Solutions is a supporter of this event) should be very interesting in terms of the future for IT programs in schools.
The Queensland Rail IT Separation Support Project finally completed after nearly 2 years. ITM Solutions provision of project support resources totalling over $1.1 million for the split and sale of Queensland Rail finalised in April this year. Our senior Project Manager, Murray McLachlan, described it as one of the more involved and convoluted projects he has ever completed but found it challenging and rewarding. Murray is currently in Sydney enjoying a well-deserved break.
The IBM Blade Server system recently installed in our offices for the testing and demonstration of the different virtualisation options available has been successfully completed under budget and with 14 days to go. The project, concurrently managed by our senior engineers, has allowed our engineers to test their particular speciality configurations and showcase them to clients. The huge processing power, cost effective expandability and upgradeability has ensured the engineers will not be wanting for power or disk space and that ITM Solutions will always be at the cutting edge of testing and experiencing emerging technologies and processes.
Cloud and Virtualisation technologies testing and investigation has been a top priority for close to 18 months for the presales and engineering teams. This has recently culminated with advanced training in the just released Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) software releases from both IBM and Quest. This combined with continual updating in Cisco, VMWare and Blade Network Technologies (BNT) has ensured that Brisbane clients are able to choose from a large range of tested options when considering virtualisation for their networks and systems.
Telstra Business offerings including Mobile plans, VOIP and PABX systems were made available to ITM Solutions clients via a strategic alliance with a premium voice service provider. This has been showing great savings in cost and frustration for clients that only need to call the one number for any network or phone issues. A dedicated Telstra contact ensures communication issues are quickly fixed with no ‘long wait’ helpdesk queues to endure.
